We are officially give away for our 2d house . Eek !
When we purchase our first house , we had such a tight budget that we literally bought the only house we could afford .
This time around we have a few more options , which is exciting but also think that there are more decisions to make . We ’re in a cock-a-hoop metropolis now and there are so many different neighborhood and parts of town , all with their pros and flimflam .
There ’s also the issue of size . Our first house had about 1500 square feet of finished space . For West Michigan , that ’s a pretty modest size that most would consider a “ starter house ” .
For our 2d theatre , much to some people ’s surprisal , I do n’t desire a bigger house . Even though we ’re reckon get kidskin , we desire a house about the same sizing as our first “ starter house ” . I ’d even be hunky-dory with a much smaller house if the floor programme and location are correct .
There are a heap of mythologic reasons to buy a smaller home ! This is why I do n’t need a bigger home :
1. You Fill the Space You Have
So this is one of my personal philosophies 🙂 I am convinced that with few exceptions , hoi polloi fill up the place they have .
When we bought our first house , we did n’t have much furniture or extra stuff . By the meter we run , we had a fully furnished house with hardly any empty pants or closets . And that ’s come from someone who regularly declutters the whole business firm .
It ’s somewhat awe-inspiring how it happens , but a few purchases here and there as well as lots of hand - me - downs , and all of the sudden our house did n’t feel so thin anymore .
The affair is , we ’re now living in a small flat and I do n’t miss any of that extra stuff . We just filled the space we had .
So part of the reason I ’d favour a smaller house is because we do n’t need the space and if we have it , I bonk we ’ll fill up it finally .
2. Lower Purchase Price and Payments
A small star sign almost always mean a depressed purchase toll and smaller defrayment ( unless you ’re buy a smaller house with extra land )
I am perpetually thankful for the first business firm we bought . We adhere to the budget we want even though the bank said that we could spend more .
It was so howling to have a dotty - low house payment and there were times that I ’m not certain how we would have afforded more .
3. Utilities
In West Michigan it catch very hot in the summer andverycold in the wintertime , so public-service corporation broadside can get super gamey .
More satisfying footage mean more space that needs to be heated and cooled which can equal a gross ton more money .
4. Faster to Clean
Ok , I figured that this was unfeigned but now I know that it is .
We trade our 3 bedchamber house and are now in a one sleeping room apartment ( ok , it ’s really a two bedroom , but Austin ’s babe inhabit in the 2nd bedroom , so I do n’t count that because I never go in there ) and it ’s shocking how quickly I can clean up and clean this place !
It only postulate a few minutes to pick up and a short time to hoover . Let ’s look it , I ’m terrible at cleaning the bathroom , so I certainly do n’t want three of them to keep unclouded .
5. Remodeling
For me , a big attractor to have got a smaller house is so that we can fix it up with nicer finish .
Think about it , if your whole house needs new flooring and it ’s 3000 square foot , you ’re either going to spend a huge lump of money or you ’re live on to use a punk material . If your business firm is 1500 square foot , you could use a much courteous flooring for the same cost .
The same goes for a kitchen cabinet and comeback or if you require new windows .
For our second theatre , I really need something that is modestly sized but nicely finished instead of something huge with chinchy finishes .
6. Awareness of Spending & Space
have a smaller mansion makes you aware of how you satisfy your space .
There ’s only enough way to keep what you use and what you have a go at it , which is how I always seek to live .
Of course , you’re able to live like that in any sized house , but I ’ve found that when we have had more distance we were more likely to keep things “ just because ” .
We hung onto furniture that we did n’t like or use because it was in a spare room . We hung onto scrap of Mrs. Henry Wood or materials that we never ended up take because there was elbow room in the garage . I kept kitchen widget that were n’t necessary because there was console space . You get the idea .
Being in a small flat has shew me , more than ever , that I like being wall by thing that I jazz and use . Things do n’t get drop off and I ’m more thrifty with how I pass our money because I sleep together that everything I buy has to get stash away somewhere .
7. More Time for What You Love
Less time clean and organizing as well as less money spent on a mortgage and utility mean that I have time and money for what ’s authoritative to me !
That ’s the end goal for me .
I do n’t want to drop hours each workweek cleaning when I could be enjoying my hobbies . I do n’t want to pass every turn of our money on our mortgage and not have any remnant for fun family activities .
A smaller sign mean more freedom to me . We ’ve started take care at business firm and I ’m hold out for the one that ’s “ just correct ” for us .
