The emperor moth Napoleon Bonaparte was neither the inventor nor the populariser of this namesake game ( also bed as " Nap " ) , but his name is used for one of the bids . Two of his enemies , Wellington and Blucher , are also bids . Here ’s how to toy :

Number of players : Two to six

Object : To outbid the other actor and then to bring home the bacon the number of tricks you ’ve bid for .

The cards : A regular 52 - card deck is used . Aces are high .

To run : principal deal five cards each in groups of three and then two , or two then three . start at trader ’s left , each actor may make one bid , naming a number of tricks to be won , or blow over . The bid does not name want cornet courtship , only the number of tricks .

A Misère bid outranks a bid of 3 . Napoleon , Wellington , and Blucher are all bid to take all five magic , but each scores differently . This think of that a player who bids Napoleon for five tricks can be outbid by another player bidding Wellington or Blucher ( see table below for summons rank ) .

If all pass , make the hand in . The highest bidder becomes the Divine . Maker ’s resister figure out together to seek to make the bid fail .

Jehovah begins by lead a card to the first trick . This card ’s suit becomes trump , except , of course , if the bid is Misère , which is no trump . You must conform to suit when you are able to ; otherwise you may outflank or throw away . A trick is won by the highest trump in it or , if it contains no trumpet , by the in high spirits card in the suit moderate . The winner of each trick leads to the next .

Scoring : Maker wins or loses points to each opposition . accede the positive or minus scores after every deal . Be certain the scads always add up to zero .

If as maker you come through the number of trick you wish , score the figure of points you wish . Nothing extra is scored for overtricks . If you call and make Napoleon , Wellington , or Blucher , score 10 points .

The opponents nock for defeating maker ’s command . If maker does n’t take the number of tricks wish , opponent scores that routine . Opponents score 5 for defeating Napoleon , 10 for shoot down Wellington , and 20 for defeating Blucher . It ’s the risk of expectant loss that separates the three different play for all five tricks .

Nap is a degenerate game to play . The first to reach 30 point is the victor .
