I clearly remember thinking about Christmas custom for the first Christmas Austin and I were hook up with .
We both had fellowship tradition that we develop up with . Some of those traditions we wanted to keep die , others were n’t as of import to us .
We also want to create some of our own Christmas traditions for our novel piffling syndicate .
We ’ve been married for six years now and we really enjoy our traditions . What I love about them is that they ’re simple and cheap which also take a leak them more sport because they ’re not an ordeal to make happen .
I will say that just because we delight our Christmas traditions does n’t mean we ’re altogether tied to them . If it life gets too busy or trying around the holidays , we have occasionally skipped some of them and that ’s OK .
Painting Ornaments
This is our special tradition that did n’t come from either side of our family . It ’s all our own .
Every year we buy a wooden ornament from the craft store for each of us . This usually cost no more than $ 1 each . I ’ve got a draftsman trade paint that we use to each paint our ornament while we listen to Christmas music .
After they ’re done , I usually spray them with shellac to keep them in good shape for year . We also spell our public figure and the class on the bottom .
I love this custom because when we first got married , we did n’t have many Christmas ornaments and now we have two particular , homemade ornaments for each twelvemonth we ’ve been wed . I also care that if we have kids someday , we can include them in painting their own ornaments .
Yearly Ornament
Our other ornament tradition is to purchase a personalise ornamentation from the mall with our name and the year on it . These ornaments are always so darn precious .
Most year Austin ’s parents also get us one of these too , so we in reality have two of these for each year since we ’ve been get hitched with .
I love that between our paint ornaments and our yearly personalized ornaments , our tree is full of special ornamentation or else of generic Christmas bulbs .
Gingerbread House Competition Party
We host a phratry Christmas party most years that is a gingerbread house making competition / company . It ’s not a huge party , commonly both of our quick family member ( the ones close by ) .
We have a dewy-eyed dinner party of soup , bread , and Christmas cooky . Then we divide into team of two or three for the competition .
We just habituate graham crackers instead of actual gingerbread . I have a special recipes for super heavyset and muggy frosting to support the slice together .
Everyone brings a few different variety of candy to decorate the house with , which also keep the costs for the political party down . I commonly make the whole party happen for around $ 50 .
After everyone is done deck their houses , we all vote on our favorite . It ’s tons of fun !
Christmas Eve Dinner
One of my favorite tradition grow up was our Christmas Eve dinner . My parents would ask my brother and I what special food we desire for dinner party and we had a mythologic dinner party of all of our favorites !
Options usually let in shrimp cocktail , spiral honey ham , sparkling grape juice , pretzel with Win Schuler ’s cheese , and cheesecake !
We snap out the fancy ravisher , alight some wax light , and relish the best repast ever .
When my parents are around for Christmas we have this repast with them . Last yr , they did n’t come up home for Christmas so Austin and I did it just the two of us .
Night Before Christmas Pop-Up Book
My dad always translate us The Night Before Christmas story every Christmas Eve before bed . We even had a special pop - up book that made it extra interactional .
Well , my mom found two more copies of the exact same pop - up leger to give to my brother and I now that we ’re all produce up .
Someday , we ’ll read it to our own kidskin but for now Austin interpret it to me 🙂
White Christmas
There are plenty of mythic Christmas classics out there , but White Christmas is incessantly my favorite . My mom and I always watch it together and quote it all the way through !
