" To top it all off with the ultimate eccentric person - fest , Sept. 22 is NationalHobbitDay , a day when every Baggins , Took and Brandybuck can revel in their ( avowedly amazing ) weirdness . The only way of life to top off all of this strangeness would be to focalize on outlandishness itself – to set aside a single day and fete the weird one in your living .
This is exactly what the metropolis ofAustin , Texas , has done for the past few years , celebrating terrific Weirdos Day on Sept. 9 – a day created by vacation aficionado , Tom Roy . Citizens of Austin have always found superbia in their eclectic and reformist culture – the hippy shot was with child during the sixties and ' 70s , and the metropolis extend to harbour an independent spirit . Austin is the host of the monolithic South by Southwest music festival , for instance , a haven for more than 1,400 independent rock acts that take piazza every spring . The city officially agnize its weirdness in 2000 when " Keep Austin Weird " caught on as the prescribed slogan and graced bumper stickers andT - shirts .
